National Museum of the American Indian

Smithsonian

This NMAI is hosted in Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, One Bowling Green, New York City.

Custom house erected in 1902–1907 by the federal government to house the duty collection operations for the Port of New York.

Native American art & artifacts, some going back 12,000 years.

It is beyond imagine how rich and alive is culture of the people from this continent. This is America before western world acknowledged and recognized diversity.

Modern history call it Native American Culture.

I believe this is just a speckle of it. Visiting museum on little family event and meeting actual Native Indians makes me realize again how diversity enrich our human existence.

We were singing, sharing, smiling and having fun. This 40 minutes I lived another life. It seems like a parallels to one I know. It was powerful.

Simplicity is what makes one civilization afraid of another. Cultures are being neglected and not recognized in last few centuries. Unfortunately, some of them being lost.

Admission in NMAI in New York is free.
