Pier A was built from 1884 to 1886 to serve the New York City Department of Docks and Harbor Police, then later on as a boat station for the New York Fire Department. Listed as a New York City Landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places, it is one of the oldest surviving piers in New York City. Its Victorian-era pier building was constructed shortly after the Brooklyn Bridge and was once one of the city’s proudest points of entry with one of the first World War I memorial erected – the ship’s clock donated by Daniel G. Reid founder of United States Steel Corporation.
Today it includes Pier A Harbour House, a 28,000-square foot, multi-experiential food and beverage destination with Manhattan’s finest sunsets, water views and Pier A Plaza – one of the last remaining waterfront sites on the Hudson River through careful consideration of resilience-oriented design measures, pedestrian circulation and flexibility for intensive programming.
This is a New York City gem completely renovated in 2014 offering spectacular 360 views of major NYC landmarks, museums and rest/picnic areas where you can hear ‘in harmony’ heavy traffic noise & sounds of nature. It is spectacular, attracting all visitors who might discover the plaza as part of the busy Battery Park neighborhood. Pier A Plaza hosted in September, 2015 Public Art Exhibition which rose ‘Awareness of Climate Change’.
It is the intersection of Battery Park. Turn clockwise from Pier Harbor House to One World Trade Center, Museum of Native American Indian, The Battery, American Merchant Marinas Memorial, Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor, Views of New Jersey City and finally Robert F. Wagner Junior Park.
